Sometimes traditional, non-invasive treatment and rehabilitation techniques are not enough to treat some scoliosis cases. Bracing becomes the best option in severe scoliosis cases, or when scoliosis continues to progress despite rehabilitation programs.
Traditional braces, such as the Boston brace, were only designed to help prevent scoliosis from progressing. And the success of these braces was largely dependent on the individual doctors’ ability to both construct and properly fit the brace to each patient.
Because scoliosis is 3-dimensional in form, treatments need to be 3-dimensional too. At Square One, we use a complete 3-D body scan along with x-ray and posture analysis to customize a brace for each patient. Modern computer technology and manufacturing techniques combine to create a brace designed to fit each individual patient’s needs.
ScoliBrace is a unique bracing system that combines the most effective bracing with the most advanced corrective spinal rehab methods and applies them to 3-D custom bracing. New technology used to create ScoliBraces means that these braces are not only highly comfortable but also non-visible when worn under clothing.
How Does ScoliBrace Work?
By positioning your body in an over-corrected, or mirror image position, the ScoliBrace creates a reduction in scoliosis curves, in most cases. ScoliBrace can also improve rib humping, shoulder un-leveling, and overall body appearance.
What’s more… ScoliBrace opens and closes in front, so it’s easy to both wear and remove without assistance. And it also comes in a variety of colors and patterns, so you can personalize the look of your brace.
The ScoliBrace can be used to treat infantile, juvenile, and adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS). In some cases, ScoliBrace may be utilized to treat congenital and neuromuscular scoliosis. Additionally, ScoliBrace can be used to stabilize adult degenerative scoliosis and hyperkyphosis.
What You Can Expect…
1. Your doctor will consult with you and perform an exam to determine your candidacy for a ScoliBrace.
2. Square One’s experienced health professionals will complete a 3-D BraceScan, which measures your body dimensions and account for your spine’s positioning to create a custom-fitted ScoliBrace.
3. We’ll send your Brace Scan, digital x-rays, posture pictures, and relevant clinical information to ScoliCare in Sydney, Australia. Then they’ll manufacture your custom-fitted brace using advanced computer analysis and engineering.

Scoliosis Bracing for Infants, Juveniles, and Adolescents
Bracing is recommended in infants, adolescents, and juveniles when traditional rehabilitation programs have failed to correct the scoliosis condition. Scoliosis can progress rapidly during growth periods, so early treatment is always most effective. Smaller curves may be corrected with a night brace, which the patient only wears a few hours each day and at night.
Scoliosis Bracing for Adults
Bracing is recommend for adults with curves greater than 50 degrees, as curves greater than 50 degrees will on average progress 1-2 degrees per year. ScoliBrace may also be worn to stabilize degenerative scoliosis in adults. Bracing in adults is not designed to fully correct scoliosis, but to stabilize the condition, decrease or eliminate pain, and prevent surgery. However, improvements are normally seen with this treatment.
If curves progress beyond 60 degrees in the thoracic spine or 70 degrees in the lumbar spine, surgery may be needed.
Scoliosis and Kyphobrases
Hyperkyphosis is a condition when there is an increased curve in the mid-spine when viewed from the side. A normal thoracic spine should have approximately 40 degree curves. In adolescents with kyphotic curves greater than 50 degrees or 60 degrees in adults, bracing is typically recommended.
